Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) Program
SPACE stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. It is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents who experience OCD and other anxiety disorders.
SPACE is aiming to treat children and adolescents with anxiety disorders, however, they do not attend treatment! Parents and caregivers participate in treatment in order to learn skills and tools to help their children reduce symptoms and functional impairments resulting from OCD and other anxiety disorders. Treatment is focused on how parents can change their own behavior in order to respond more supportively to their anxious child and to reduce accommodations they have been making for their child.
You might be a good candidate for SPACE if your child is experiencing any of the following:
- Separation anxiety
- Social anxiety
- Generalized anxiety
- Fears and phobias
- Panic disorder
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
Megan Rose, LMHC and Shannon Wilson, LMHC, PMH-C are 2 of 3 providers in the state of Iowa who have completed SPACE training.
